Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Define the OSI seven layer model
  • Describe communications and network security
  • Differentiate between Internet/intranet/extranet devices, services and protocols
  • List e-mail security techniques
  • Articulate between varying network attacks and countermeasures

The course is taught in class with an instructor.

Prerequisite:

An understanding of IP networking and data communication is recommended. Also the Networking: Foundations, Networking Foundations: Advance, TCP/IP: Foundations are recommended.

Audience:

Individuals that need to understand network security relating to voice and data communications as well as the management techniques to help prevent/detect/recover from security incidents, specifically Systems Engineers, Network Administrators, Network Consultants, Technical Architects, and Security Planners.

Course Description:

This course introduces the student to the structures, transmission methods, transport formats and security measures used to provide integrity, availability, authentication and confidentiality for transmissions over public and private networks. Through a series of discussions the student will gain knowledge of these concepts.
