Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

• Describe the evolution of Ethernet technology
• Explain the use of common networking technology
• List the standards associated with Ethernet technology
• Differentiate Gigabit and 10 Gigabit implementation possibilities
• List current manufacturer support for gigabit and beyond

The course is taught in class with an instructor. This course is one day in length

Prerequisite:

General data communications knowledge is helpful.

• Individuals that need a broad knowledge to support small to campus networks
• Individuals that need to design medium size networks

Course Description:

This is the foundation course that focuses on Gigabit Ethernet style of networking. The course begins with an overview and history of data communications. It is followed with a detailed discussion of the elements that comprise a network. There is an overview discussion on the features and functions of Ethernet, which is followed by in-depth discussions on Gigabit Ethernet and 10 Gigabit Ethernet technologies.

The course follows on with design applications for both these technologies. The course wraps up with a product update on market leaders in this technology.
