Technology Training: Communications Courses: Networking Foundations: Gigabit and Beyond
Course Objectives:Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
- Describe the evolution of Ethernet technology
- Explain the use of common networking technology
- List the standards associated with Ethernet technology
- Differentiate Gigabit and 10 Gigabit implementation possibilities
- List current manufacturer support for gigabit and beyond
Course Type:The course is taught in class with an instructor. This course is one day in length
Prerequisite:General data communications knowledge is helpful.
Audience:
- Individuals that need a broad knowledge to support small to campus networks
- Individuals that need to design medium size networks
Course Description:This is the foundation course that focuses on Gigabit Ethernet style of networking. The course begins with an overview and history of data communications. It is followed with a detailed discussion of the elements that comprise a network. There is an overview discussion on the features and functions of Ethernet, which is followed by in-depth discussions on Gigabit Ethernet and 10 Gigabit Ethernet technologies.
The course follows on with design applications for both these technologies. The course wraps up with a product update on market leaders in this technology.
