Ian Hornby
Director, Learning Solutions

Ian Hornby has been involved in policy analysis, communications and group facilitation work for more than 30 years. His work has been as diverse as spokesperson for Energy and Pollution Probe, energy policy advisor, press secretary to the Minister for International Trade, National Crime Prevention Week coordinator, and Executive Assistant to the Chairman of the Parole Board.

Since leaving government in 1994 he has become a leading specialist in alternative regulatory and legislative analysis, providing his services to many government departments (Industry, Treasury Board, Transport, Citizenship and Immigration, CCRA, Fisheries and Oceans), and notably the departments and agencies in the Health portfolio.

His background and work straddles the two disciplines of policy analysis and communications. This combination has made him extremely adept at designing consultation plans, facilitating stakeholder meetings and training public servants. He has been providing a suite of cutting-edge workshops to public servants for the past fifteen years. In joining with Building Blocks in 2009, he brings with him a wealth of insights into the way government works and how to develop compelling policy proposals.

Ian Hornby holds an MPA from Harvard University and is trained as a training designer and provider.
